Online Course with weekly live zoom discussion

Awakening Compassion: A 6-Week Journey into Engaged Buddhism

Join us for a 6-week course on Engaged Buddhism from the standpoint of Dzogchen and Mahamudra practices. This course will explore how we can integrate spiritual practice with social and environmental action to create positive change in the world.


Each week, we will offer a 30-minute video presentation to be watched prior to the hour-long practice and discussion group on Zoom. During these sessions, you will have the opportunity to ask questions, share your experiences, and engage with others in the course.


Week 1: Introduction to Engaged Buddhism

In this week, we will explore the basics of Engaged Buddhism and how it can inform our social and environmental action.


Week 2: The Four Noble Truths and Engaged Buddhism

In this week, we will explore the Four Noble Truths and how they relate to Engaged Buddhism.


Week 3: The Five Skandhas and Engaged Buddhism

In this week, we will explore the Five Skandhas and how they inform our understanding of the causes of suffering and how we can alleviate it.


Week 4: The Eightfold Path and Engaged Buddhism

In this week, we will explore the Eightfold Path and how it relates to Engaged Buddhism.


Week 5: The Bodhisattva Ideal and Engaged Buddhism

In this week, we will explore the Bodhisattva ideal and how it can inspire our social and environmental action.


Week 6: Interdependence and Engaged Buddhism

In this week, we will explore the concept of interdependence and how it relates to Engaged Buddhism.


This course is open to all who are interested in Engaged Buddhism and the intersection of spiritual practice and social and environmental action. No prior experience is necessary.


Date: April 6 - May 11, 2023

Zoom Practice and Discussion Group: 1 hour each week

Time: 7:00-8:00 Central US Time

Online (video presentations links will be emailed to be watched prior to discussion groups)

Cost is $40 (scholarships available)
